Snacks, sunshine and time together aboard your private sailing tour in Guanacaste.

Mowana Sailing offers an all-inclusive private boat tour in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, aboard a Buccaneer 33 trimaran reserved for your group of up to 12 guests. Departing from Playa Flamingo, our sailing tours include the captain, crew, activity equipment, food and drinks. Choose a four-hour morning trip, a private sunset cruise with a barbecue, or eight hours aboard on a full-day sailing tour.

If you are looking for the best fit for your vacation, compare what each private charter actually covers. A catamaran, sailboat or trimaran listing may describe a very different day: shared or exclusive use, snacks or a meal, a short snorkeling outing or more time to sail along the Pacific coast. With Mowana, snorkeling, swimming, paddleboarding and fishing depend on conditions, and the captain chooses suitable stops.

Whether you are staying in Tamarindo, Potrero or Playa Conchal, plan your journey to Flamingo Beach: hotel pickup is not included. This guide explains how to compare boat tours in Guanacaste by duration, inclusions, group price and departure logistics. Use it to choose the sailing experience that matches your priorities, from time together on deck to snorkeling opportunities or an afternoon that ends with sunset.

Start with the Boat and the People Sharing Your Trip

When you compare a private catamaran sailing trip, a sailboat charter and a trimaran tour, start with the reservation itself. Does the price cover the entire boat, or does it buy places on a shared departure? A small passenger limit does not necessarily mean an exclusive experience.

Mowana is reserved entirely for your group. Couples can spend time together, families can share an outing, and friends can gather without other passenger groups joining them. Our maximum capacity is 12 guests, whether you choose a short excursion or a full boat day in Guanacaste.

The vessel also shapes your time aboard. A catamaran has two hulls; Mowana is a trimaran with three. Our large trampolines provide space to relax outdoors, and shaded areas give you another place to settle while the coast passes by. Look at the layout and the way your group wants to spend its time, rather than choosing by the words “catamaran” or “sailboat” alone.

When reviewing a sailboat or catamaran listing, ask what the crew handles and which activities require your participation.

For a family-friendly outing, consider everyone's interests. Some guests may want snorkeling and paddleboarding, while others prefer conversation, refreshments and the view. Choose a boat tour that gives both groups an appealing way to enjoy the day.

What Does an All-Inclusive Private Boat Tour in Guanacaste Include?

An all-inclusive boat tour in Guanacaste should have a clear description of what you receive. Compare the details behind the package, especially when one option offers snacks and another includes a meal. Food included in the price does not automatically mean the same menu on every departure.

Mowana tours include the boat, captain and crew, plus snorkeling equipment, one paddleboard and fishing gear. The morning departure includes snacks and drinks. Our sunset cruise includes a barbecue, while the full-day sailing tour includes meals, including a barbecue lunch, and drinks throughout the excursion.

The open bar includes water, juices, soft drinks, beer, wines and cocktails. If you are comparing another sailing charter, check its drinks list as well as its food selection. An open bar description is more useful when you know what is served, including the nonalcoholic choices for your group.

For Mowana's half-day outings, snacks include vegetables with dip, chimichurri with homemade chips, and fruit. Tell us about food allergies or dietary requirements before booking so we can confirm what is possible. A dietary request needs an answer before you reserve; it should not be assumed from the phrase “all-inclusive.”

Match Your Tour to the Time You Want at Sea

There is no need to choose the longest trip simply because it includes more time. Think about your plans before and after the excursion, how much sailing your group wants, and whether sunset is a priority.

Morning tour: four hours, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This option suits travelers who want a sailing and snorkeling outing while keeping the afternoon available. If you are staying in a hotel outside Playa Flamingo, include the journey to the beach when planning your early start. Snacks and drinks are included, so choose this departure if a shorter boat trip fits your day better than a meal aboard.

Sunset tour: from 1:30 PM until sunset. A private sunset cruise combines afternoon sailing with a barbecue and time to watch the changing light. It is an option for couples, families or friends who want their Guanacaste excursion to carry into the evening. Sunset sailing does not require everyone to join the activities; relaxing on the boat is part of the outing, too.

Full-day tour: eight hours. Choose a private full-day sailing tour when you want your excursion to be the main event. The additional time gives you more opportunities to sail, enjoy activities when conditions allow and take a break between them. Meals and refreshments are included, so you can spend the day aboard rather than organizing separate outings.

Plan for Snorkeling and Changing Sea Conditions

A glimpse of marine life beneath the surface. Wildlife sightings vary with each outing.

Snorkeling equipment is included with Mowana, but visibility and sea conditions cannot be booked in advance. The captain selects suitable stops based on currents, visibility and the sea on the day of the tour. That applies to a snorkeling tour, a sunset cruise and a full-day trip alike. Having an extra hour aboard gives you more time at sea, but it cannot guarantee a particular snorkel stop.

If the chance to snorkel is the reason you are choosing a boat tour in Guanacaste, make that clear before you reserve. Explain whether your group has snorkeled before and how comfortable everyone feels in the water. If some guests prefer not to snorkel, they can relax aboard instead. Read our Playa Flamingo snorkeling guide for more context about conditions and what to expect.

If you are considering the right time to visit for a sailing trip, distinguish your travel dates from the conditions on a particular day. No date guarantees clear visibility; include some flexibility in your plans if snorkeling is your priority.

Paddleboarding, swimming and fishing also depend on conditions. We have one paddleboard aboard, so guests take turns rather than each receiving their own. Fishing is an optional activity during the outing, not a dedicated sport fishing charter. If fishing is your main goal, discuss that with us before deciding which excursion to book.

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Choose your Guanacaste sailing trip for the time on the ocean, the scenery and the activities available, without relying on seeing a particular animal. A flexible route allows the captain to respond to conditions instead of promising a fixed number of snorkeling stops.

Plan the Journey from Your Hotel to Flamingo Beach

Guanacaste is a province, not a single departure point. When comparing boat tours in the province of Guanacaste, check the actual meeting location before choosing a date or arranging transport.

All Mowana departures meet on Playa Flamingo Beach, in front of PLEAMAR restaurant. Hotel pickup and transportation to the meeting point are not included. If you are staying in Tamarindo, your sailing tour still starts in Playa Flamingo; the same applies when you are staying in Potrero or Playa Conchal.

Give your hotel or transportation provider the precise meeting point and departure time. For a morning trip, plan the journey around the 8:30 AM start. For a sunset cruise, arrange the return with the tour's sunset finish in mind. Confirm the details for your selected date rather than treating every sunset as a fixed clock time.

This is also useful when comparing all-inclusive offers in Guanacaste: a package with hotel transport and one without it have different total costs and logistics. Include the journey in your decision, even if the boat tour itself covers food, drinks and activities.

Compare Private Charter Pricing on the Same Basis

The cost of a boat tour only becomes meaningful when you know what the quoted amount covers. A per-person catamaran ticket and a total private charter price are not directly comparable. First establish the total for your party, then divide by the number of guests if you want a per-person comparison.

Mowana publishes total prices in USD for your private group. Check the rate for the exact number of guests and the tour you want. If your group size changes, request the applicable total; do not assume that the price for an additional guest is identical across every group size or departure.

When reviewing pricing for sailing tours in Guanacaste, compare these items together:

  • The same number of guests and exclusive or shared use of the boat.

  • The tour duration and whether a sunset finish matters to you.

  • Food: light bites, a barbecue meal or full-day meals.

  • Drinks included, including the open bar selection.

  • Snorkeling and other activity equipment provided.

  • Transport costs and the payment and cancellation terms.

Keep your preferred dates and an alternative ready when you request availability. For private charters, include your final guest count so the quote reflects the group that will actually sail. Comparing like-for-like offers makes it easier to decide whether a particular charter offers the day you want.

Decide Whether Mowana Fits Your Guanacaste Vacation

Explore Guanacaste’s Pacific coast aboard a trimaran reserved exclusively for your group.

Mowana's tour highlights include sailing, food, drinks and opportunities for snorkeling, with the boat reserved for your group. Consider this private boat tour in Guanacaste if those are the elements you want to share with the people traveling with you. It offers an alternative to a shared catamaran cruise, with a choice of departure formats rather than one fixed way to spend the day.

If you are staying in Guanacaste for a short visit, the morning tour leaves room for other plans. If the evening atmosphere matters most, choose the sunset cruise. For a slower day aboard, the full-day option provides eight hours aboard. Activities and wildlife remain dependent on conditions whichever departure you select.
