A Family-Run Sailing Experience in Guanacaste
Mowana Sailing is a French-Costa Rican family-run sailing company based in Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste. For more than 30 years, we have been sailing and exploring this beautiful stretch of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
Our boat, Mowana, is a fully renovated Buccaneer 33 trimaran designed for comfortable and relaxed days at sea. Every tour is completely private, giving your group the freedom to sail, snorkel, explore secluded bays and enjoy the Pacific at your own pace.
Our long experience sailing these waters allows us to adapt each trip to the weather and sea conditions and take our guests to some of our favorite places along the Guanacaste coast.

Owner / Captain
Jean-Luc: "Capi Janlu"
Jean-Luc is Mowana’s captain and owner. He has been sailing the waters of Guanacaste for more than 30 years and knows this coastline inside out. His experience and knowledge of the local waters help make every trip safe, relaxed and unique.
Jean-Luc speaks French, English and Spanish.

Laurent: "Lolo"
Laurent, Jean-Luc’s cousin, fell in love with Costa Rica on his very first visit.
He helps manage Mowana Sailing and makes sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and on the water.

Lia: "Chucky"
Lia, Jean-Luc’s younger daughter, grew up between Costa Rican life and the sea. When she joins the crew, she brings her energy, good humor and warm personality aboard Mowana.

Lilou, Jean-Luc’s eldest daughter, is part of the family behind Mowana Sailing. Calm, attentive and always ready to help, she contributes to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere on board.
Sailing with Less Impact
At Mowana Sailing, we believe one of the best ways to experience Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast is under sail.
Whenever conditions allow, we use the wind to explore the Guanacaste coastline, enjoying the quiet and unique experience of sailing.
Solar panels provide electricity for our onboard equipment and help reduce our reliance on the engine. We also limit single-use plastics whenever possible and encourage our guests to respect the ocean, the beaches and the marine life we encounter along the Guanacaste coast.
Our approach is simple: enjoy the ocean, sail with the elements and minimize our impact whenever possible.
