Adjusting to the Conditions

These are individual accounts, not a promise of an identical itinerary. Read the original reviews on Tripadvisor for the travelers’ descriptions and dates.

What Makes This a Private Sailing Experience?

Mowana is a Buccaneer 33 trimaran, reserved exclusively for your group of up to 12 guests. Your private boat comes with a captain and crew who handle navigation and onboard service.

There is space to talk, stretch out on the trampolines, or enjoy a quiet moment looking toward the shoreline. Shaded areas and beanbags provide other places to settle in between stops.

Privacy also means you can discuss your group’s interests without coordinating with another party. Some passengers want to snorkel; others prefer photographs, conversation, or simply watching the ocean. Participation in the available activities is optional.

A private charter still operates within practical limits. Requests must fit the duration, conditions, and safety decisions made aboard.

Our guide to how a private sailing tour works explains the arrangement in more detail.

Food, Drinks, and Activities Aboard

Food and drinks are included, so refreshments form part of the outing. Menus vary by tour, with a barbecue served on the Sunset and Full-Day options.

Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements before reserving so we can discuss what is suitable.

Snorkeling equipment, one paddleboard, and fishing equipment are available. Swimming and paddleboarding depend on suitable conditions at the selected stops. You can join an activity or remain on board and enjoy the view.

If you are comparing water sports in Playa Flamingo, consider how much of your outing you want to spend participating and how much you want to spend relaxing. A boat tour can combine both, without requiring everyone to follow the same rhythm.

There is no need to fill every minute. For some travelers, the pleasure is a swim followed by a meal; for others, it is having room to relax while their companions explore the water.

Choose Between Morning, Sunset, and Full-Day Sailing

The right tour depends on how you want to organize your vacation.

The Morning tour offers an earlier departure and leaves your afternoon free. It can suit visitors who want a coastal outing alongside other plans.

The Sunset sailing tour combines time aboard with the changing evening light. A sunset can be a memorable setting for a romantic occasion or a gathering with friends, although cloud cover affects the colors and visibility.

The Full-Day tour lasts eight hours. This longer option gives your group more room for sailing, meals, activities, and breaks without fitting everything into a shorter visit.

When comparing the price, check the total cost for your group and the inclusions. A private charter price and an individual ticket on a shared departure represent different arrangements. Review the current rates rather than relying on a cost mentioned in an older review.

Where Your Boat Excursion Begins

Your meeting point is Playa Flamingo Beach, in front of PLEAMAR restaurant. Boarding is arranged from the beach; the restaurant is the landmark used to find the departure location.

Visitors staying at hotels in Playa Flamingo should check their route to the meeting point. If you are coming from Tamarindo, Potrero, or near Playa Conchal, plan your journey ahead.

Transportation from your accommodation is not included.

Captain and owner Jean-Luc has been sailing in the Tamarindo and Potrero area since 1992. His local knowledge helps guide decisions along the Guanacaste coast.

Before your visit, contact us about boarding concerns or mobility needs. We recommend discussing these early rather than waiting until you arrive. You do not need previous sailing experience, and the crew provides instructions and a safety briefing.

Weather, Marine Life, and Realistic Expectations

Reviews and photos capture a particular day. They cannot guarantee the same conditions during your own trip.

Wind, waves, currents, and visibility influence the route and stopping places. Depending on sea conditions, the captain may select a sheltered bay, change a planned stop, or adjust how the vessel operates. Whether we can use the sails also depends on the weather.

Marine life is another part of the experience that follows nature. Sea turtles, dolphins, or fish may sometimes be seen, but wildlife encounters are never guaranteed. A sighting described in a review remains a special event rather than an inclusion.

Beautiful beaches and secluded anchorages can appear in travelers’ photos, but a previous stop does not establish a fixed destination. If a particular beach, snorkeling location, or animal sighting is your main reason for coming, explain that expectation before reserving.

We recommend approaching the itinerary with flexibility. Sailing offers a changing perspective on the coastline, and each outing follows the conditions encountered that day.

A Cancellation and Refund Complaint

One complaint followed a cancellation before the excursion and concerned PayPal fees. We sent back the net amount we had received; the customer expected a full refund. PayPal closed the buyer’s dispute over the original payment in our favor.

That outcome concerned that specific case, not a general approval of refund terms.

Although the customer did not take the tour, the booking and refund process is part of the customer experience.

Please read our booking and cancellation terms and ask about anything unclear before paying.

A Useful Detail When Reading Reviews: Trimaran or Catamaran?

Some travelers use the word “catamaran” in their descriptions, but Mowana has three hulls and is a trimaran. A catamaran has two hulls.

When comparing catamaran sailing with other boat tours, look at the actual vessel, passenger capacity, seating, and private or shared format. Those details help you assess comfort more clearly than a broad label alone.

Plan Your Own Visit to Guanacaste

Trust grows from clear information as well as positive feedback. Look for reviews that reflect your priorities, then check the current arrangements and ask any practical questions.

When you are ready, compare our private sailing excursions. Choose the format that suits your group and tell us what you hope to enjoy during your visit to Costa Rica.

After your outing, you are welcome to write a review describing what stood out and anything that could have been better. Specific, honest feedback helps future travelers decide whether this is the right experience for them.
